Ingredients - Patchouli oil, sandalwood, halmadi honey, mixed ayurvedic herbs

Aroma - Mystic soul patchouli incense has a distinctive, earthy, sweet, spicy & musky, oriental aroma.  It is believed that when one enhales the patchouli aroma it transmits messages to a brain region involved in controlling emotions known as the limbic system, this brain region also influences the nervous system therefore patchouli can assist with settling emotions and calming the nervous system.

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) is an aromatic flowering plant that grows in a bush up to one meter high. It belongs to the mint family and has large, fragrant leaves with irregular tooth-shaped edges. Both the stems and leaves are covered in fine hairs. When the plant blooms, it produces small flowers in white or pale purple shades. The plant originated in the tropical climes of South Asia, where it has been cultivated for centuries, thanks to its fragrant oil, which is produced by the leaves of the plant. Patchouli oil is extracted by drying the leaves of the plant and then distilling the oil via steaming.

Although its use was widespread in the 1960s, it began to be used hundreds of years earlier; its high value inspired early European traders to exchange Patchouli for gold. One pound of Patchouli was worth one pound of gold. It was also believed that the Pharaoh Tutankhamun, better known as “King Tut,” was buried with 10 gallons of Patchouli Essential Oil inside his tomb.

Having been used to scent Indian fabrics such as fine silks and shawls to rid them of moths and other insects in the 1800s, Patchouli Oil is believed to have received its name from the Hindi word “pacholi,” meaning “to scent.” Another theory states that its name comes from the Ancient Tamil words “patchai" and "ellai,” meaning “green leaf.” The story goes that the scent of Patchouli Oil became the standard by which fabrics would be judged as being true “Oriental” fabrics. Even English and French clothing makers would scent their fabrics with artificial Patchouli Oil to boost clothing sales.

Mystic Soul incense is made by hand in a traditional/authentic way.  The ingredients are first boiled to make a paste, then hand rolled onto bamboo sticks, once dried they are sprayed with essential oil before finally being covered in wooden fragrance powder. We only use the highest quality materials including resins, essential oils, honey, woods, & herbs. Each flavour is unique, and contains the mystical, natural aromas of India.

Our incense packs weigh 50 grams and contain between 30-45 incense sticks.  Each incense stick burns for around 30-45 minutes.
